While my own schooling began in a bilingual parochial school in Somersworth, NH, my professional work in education began at Somerville High School two decades ago, when I worked as an administrative assistant in the Voc. Ed. department and as a student teacher in the English department. I joined the Healey School Council as a Community Representative in 1998, when my daughter was just one year old. I served on the School Council for 6 years. I also served as a Title One Family Liaison as part of a group headquartered at the Winter Hill Community School.
In the meantime, I have been a teacher in both public and private schools, worked on developing several assessments for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, written online courses for PBS Teacherline–in which I was proud to feature four Somerville teachers–and led the team that developed PBS Parents Guide to Creativity. Through work at Educational Testing Service and Education Development Center, I have demonstrated success as both a team player and a project leader. I continue to consult as an independent researcher and curriculum developer and to volunteer in various capacities at the Healey School.
I understand schools from many angles: as a teacher, a parent, a volunteer, and a researcher. I would bring to the School Committee a wide range of experiences, a depth of understanding, a talent for creative, forward thinking, and a penchant for asking different questions.
